I remember this day very clearly. The snowstorm had become severe enough that we were sent home from work early, with concern that if we waited much longer, some of us might not make it home safely.
I had my camera with me and a telephoto lens, and as I started the drive home, I realized that the landscape around me had become almost unrecognizable. I had traveled this same route to and from work for more than fifteen years, but on this day it looked like somewhere I had never been.
The wind was howling, the snow was blowing across the open farmland, and the cold cut straight through you. So I stayed inside the warmth of my truck, lowered the window when something caught my attention, and photographed the familiar landscape as the storm erased and reshaped it around me.
I wasn't discovering a new place.
I was seeing an old one for the first time.
